The Vision Behind
Villa Junnola

The vision for Villa Junnola was created by a true cottage enthusiast whose love for Finnish lakeside living is reflected in every detail of the villa.

It combines the quality of a luxury hotel with the ease of a private villa — a place where comfort and elegance meet the simplicity of nature.

Villa Junnola is our way of sharing the Finland we love: an authentic, seasonal, and relaxing retreat by the lake, designed for effortless living.

Built in the 1920s, Villa Junnola was once home to families who worked at the nearby Orijärvi Copper Mine — one of Finland’s oldest, operating from 1757 to 1957. At its height, more than 2,000 people lived and worked here, in a flourishing community with schools, post offices, shops, and a vibrant village life.

The lake canals connecting Orijärvi, Määrjärvi, and Seljänalainen — the three lakes that cradle Villa Junnola — were originally built to transport ore. Today, they remain an essential part of the region’s charm. The area’s mining heritage still echoes through the landscape, inspiring us to bring the villa’s rustic character to life while ensuring modern comfort and effortless luxury.

Finland – A Land of Lakes, Seasons, and Freedom

Finland is often called Europe’s best-kept secret — a country of safety, space, and pure nature.

Here, you can wander through quiet forests, swim in crystal-clear lakes, and enjoy the calm of a land where clean air and water shape daily life.

For six years in a row, Finland has been named the happiest country in the world. This happiness comes from trust, freedom, and balance. Communities are reliable, equality is the norm, and nature is always close by — no matter where you are, a forest or lake is never far away.

Thanks to Everyman’s Right, you can freely roam, forage for berries, and paddle across endless blue waters.

Life here is guided by the rhythm of four seasons, each offering unique experiences — from bright midsummer nights to snowy winters and spring’s fresh light. Read more about our seasons ➝

At Villa Junnola, you experience Finland the way locals do: surrounded by three lakes, close to nature, and embraced by the quiet luxury of lakeside living.

Villa Junnola - Property Layout

The heart of the estate is the main house, Villa Junnola, serving as the centerpiece of your lakeside retreat.

Surrounding the main house are three additional houses, each named after one of the lakes that embrace the property:

  • Määrjärvi – 7.6 km²

  • Seljänalainen – 2.73 km²

  • Orijärvi – 1.76 km²

The houses are arranged from the largest to the smallest lake, mirroring the natural landscape that inspires Villa Junnola.

Adding to the estate’s charm are unique spaces such as the Wine Cellar, offering both comfort and character to your lakeside getaway.

To Understand Finland,
You Must Understand the Sauna

In Finland, the sauna is more than a tradition — it’s a way of life. With over three million saunas for five million people, it’s where Finns relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature.

The health benefits are clear: sauna bathing reduces stress, improves sleep, boosts circulation, and helps the body recover after activity. Even one visit leaves you feeling refreshed, energized, and deeply relaxed — especially when combined with the classic Finnish hot-cold contrast of stepping into the lake after the heat.

At Villa Junnola, you’ll enjoy a classic Finnish wood-heated sauna, just a few steps from the water. Whether you prefer a quiet moment alone or a shared experience with friends, it’s an easy and authentic way to slow down, recover, and feel good during your stay.
